Question by brenden143: How do I claim self employment while getting unemployment?
I am going to take a job as an independent contactor, how do I claim this on my bi-weekly unemployment claim if I’m not paying any taxes until the end of the year??
To the first person who answered… What if the person Im going to work for says I have to fill out a 1099 at the end of the year?? Does that mean he reports my earnings to IRS??

You report what you got paid. The fact that no taxes are taken out doesn’t change this.
Whether or not you actually receive a 1099-Misc, if you get paid for self-employment work you MUST report it on your taxes. In order for them to deduct the money they paid you, they HAVE to issue a 1099-Misc if they pay you more than 0 (many issue it for any amount paid).
If you fail to report the income to the unemployment commission, they WILL find out. When they do, they will ask for the excess payments back.
