On my GCSE statistics paper, one question was work out the crude unemployment rate. What is it and how do you work it out?

Assume the annual average unemployment rate, R(t), for single women between the years of 1985 and 2001 is approximated by the function
R(t) = -2t2 + 24t – 57
where t represents the year and t = 0 represents 1985. In which year did the maximum unemployment rate occur? What was the maximum unemployment rate according to this model?

If the Unemployment rate is zero or very low for a country like the UK how can this be a benefit for the country? In the 70′s or 80′s when there was a small military the domestic unemploymentt rate was around 10%. The statistical base was changed to include military personnel and the rate dropped to around 5%. Since then increases in the military have lowered the domestic unemployment rate.

from regression analysis I found that there is a strong positive relationship between the unemployment rate and mortgage rates. I can’t figure out why. Any thoughts?
